Requirements

Associate and Bachelor Degree Requirements

For Associate and Bachelor programs, applicants must complete the following steps prior to enrollment:

  • Submit copies of official documents in the original language and certified English translations of these documents. Specific documents required vary from country to country but generally include a copy of high school diplomas or certificates, transcripts, and examination scores.
  • Submit evidence of English fluency. This requirement can be satisfied by a TOEFL score of at least 500 (written vers.) or 173 (computer vers.) or 80 (Internet based vers.); IELTS score of 6.5 bands or better.
  • Please note that students must have their official TOEFL or IELTS scores sent directly to the Admissions Office at SIU from the Educational Testing Service prior to registration. SIU’s TOEFL number is 0835. 

Master Degree Requirements

For Master programs,applicants must complete the following steps prior to enrollment:

  • Submit copies of official documents in the original language and certified English translations of these documents. Specific documents required vary from country to country but generally include a copy of high school and Bachelor Degree  diplomas or certificates, transcripts, and examination scores.
  • Submit evidence of English fluency. This requirement can be satisfied by a TOEFL score of at least 500 (written vers.) or 173 (computer vers.) or 61 Internet based vers.); IELTS score of 6.0 bands or better.
  • Please note that students must have their official TOEFL or IELTS scores sent directly to the Admissions Office at SIU from the Educational Testing Service prior to registration. SIU’s TOEFL number is 0835.

Non-Native English Speaking Students

  • All non native English speakers applicants are required to take an English exam, the TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language)  or an IELTS ( International English Language Testing System) taken within the previous two (2) years prior to registration.
  • This requirement can be satisfied by a TOEFL score of at least  500 (written vers.) or 173 (computer vers.) or 89 (Internet based vers.); IELTS score of 6.5 bands or better.
  • The results of TOEFL/IELTS score must be sent directly from the Educational Testing Centre to the MADRID Campus prior to Registration.  SIU’s TOEFL number is 0835.

Transfer Credits

College Board Advanced Placement (AP) Chart 2016-17

Effective for Undergraduates Matriculating 2016-17

A maximum of 45 credit units of transfer and test credit may be applied toward the undergraduate degree. Subjects not listed on the AP chart are not eligible for AP credit. Students continuing in the subject should enroll in the placement course for the corresponding AP subject.

TRANSFER OF CREDITS FROM OTHER POST-SECONDARY INSTITUTIONS

All US Citizen/US Legal resident students requesting transfer credits from a post-secondary institution must submit copies of official transcripts to SIU from previously attended post-secondary institutions from which they are requesting transfer credits from. Official transcripts are those that are received by SIU that do not state “released to student” or any wording thereof expressing that transcript was released to student.

Students enrolling in a graduate program must provide an official transcript for the Undergraduate studies showing the student earned the undergraduate degree. If official transcripts from post-secondary institutions are not received by the end of the second course during the first semester of enrollment, potential transfer credit will not be accepted. Refer to policies regarding Transfer Credit on the catalog for more details.

For Official Transcripts that are the ONLY copy the University releases, certified copies must be submitted to the University at the student’s cost. If the transcript documentation submitted is not satisfactory, the University reserves the right to require an external transcript evaluation. The external evaluation must be conducted by a NACES (www.naces.org) approved member such as Educational Credentials Evaluator (ECE), Josef Silny and Associates, or World Education Services (WES). In addition, the following evaluation services are also approved by Schiller International University-AACRAO Foreign Education Credential Service and American Evaluation and Translation Service, Inc. (AETS)
